Brasses are copper-zinc alloys for parts that are machined or formed in volume, from lead-free rods and wires to reinforced bars for aerospace.

What this family is good at

What brasses do well

Brass is chosen for machinability and formability. Turned, drilled and cold-formed parts come out of it at high rates and at a competitive cost.

EnviB®, our lead-free machining range

EnviB® is our range of lead-free brass, developed for parts that have been turned from leaded grades until now. EnviB® 1 and EnviB® 10 are CuZn40 grades, compliant with CW509L and listed as UNS C28000. EnviB® 58 and EnviB® 158 are CuZn42 grades, compliant with CW510L.

All four are supplied as rods and wires, and they accept cold and hot working, machining and flash welding. EnviB® 158 adds high dimensional stability for precision parts. EnviB® 58 also exists in an AM variant filed for health applications.

Typical applications

Precision optical components and electronic parts are the first uses of the EnviB® range. Watchmaking, eyewear and leather-goods hardware buy the same grades for their machinability and their surface quality. Medical devices ask for lead-free options as well.

ZA9 and Si45Z, bar grades for aerospace

ZA9 is a CuZn19Al6MnFe brass reinforced with aluminium, manganese and iron. It combines high strength with good antifriction behaviour and resists oxidation, which is why friction-guidance rings of landing gear are made from it. We supply it as bars, compliant with ASNA 3402, NFL14707, NCT 10631-11, NCT 15631-01 and NCT 15631-02.

Si45Z is a copper-silicon grade, CuSi3Fe2Zn3 and UNS C65620, that our catalogue files with the brasses. We supply it as cold-worked bars, compliant with AMS4616, for aerospace parts.

Choosing a grade with our engineers

Our engineers compare the EnviB® grades with the leaded brass you use today and confirm the substitution on your part. Not every grade exists in every form, and each product page lists the forms we hold.
