Wear-resistant alloys for critical aircraft systems
Aircraft manufacturers need materials that withstand high loads, friction, temperature variations and corrosion throughout the life of the aircraft. For more than 60 years, Lebronze alloys has supplied high-performance copper alloys to the aerospace industry in the form of bars, tubes, wires and near-net-shape components.
Working closely with our customers, we select the most suitable alloy and temper for each application, while ensuring full control of chemistry, dimensions and quality documentation throughout the manufacturing process.
Our alloys support critical aircraft systems, including landing gear, braking, flight control, electrical, cargo handling and engine-related applications. With melting, forging, rolling, drawing, heat treatment, machining and non-destructive testing performed in-house, every batch remains fully traceable from melt to finished part. We also continue to support legacy platforms throughout their service life, from OEM production to MRO activities.
Wear and friction
Copper-nickel-tin and nickel aluminium bronze grades are made for bushings and bearings that work under load and friction. Hardiall® (CuNi15Sn8) reaches a guaranteed minimum tensile strength of 1103 MPa in its TS 160 U temper.
Strength to weight
High-strength copper alloys let a design office reduce the section of a part that carries load. Launcher and satellite builders use Hardiall® for light-weight parts that must not fail.
Conductivity
UC500 (CuCrZr, compliant with ASTM B624) combines strength, resistance to high temperatures and electrical conductivity, for conductor wires and shielding braids. ARCAP® nickel silvers machine into connector bodies that stay non-magnetic.
Corrosion and temperature
Nickel aluminium bronzes such as NC4 (compliant with AMS 4640) and NCS (compliant with AMS 4590) keep their strength and hardness through temperature changes and corrosion. Our site in Christchurch casts nickel aluminium bronzes compliant with AMS 4880 and AMS 4881.

Where our alloys support aircraft performance
Bushings, bearings and bearing cages
Landing gear, brakes, steering mechanisms and up/down lock controls run on copper-nickel-tin and nickel aluminium bronze bushings that wear slowly under extreme loads. Hardiall® bars and tubes are compliant with AMS 4596, AMS 4597 and AMS 4598.
Actuator components for primary and secondary flight controls
Elevators, ailerons, rudders, flaps, slats, spoilers, thrust reversers and cargo doors move on hydraulic actuators. The copper-nickel-aluminium grades K5 and K7 give their bushings and raceways high strength and fatigue resistance, and K5 stays non-magnetic.
Connector bodies, conductor wires and shielding
UC500 wires carry current and shield cables against interference at high temperature. ARCAP® nickel silvers machine into non-magnetic bodies for electrical and optical fibre connectors, and Niclafor® 1000 strip shields electronics without beryllium.
