Nickel-silver alloys are made for precision parts that must keep their strength, their silver colour and their non-magnetic behaviour over time.

Alloy family

What this family is good at

Stronger than brass, silver in colour

Nickel-silver alloys combine copper with nickel and zinc. They offer a mechanical strength and a corrosion resistance above those of brass, a good electrical resistivity and a silver colour, although they contain no silver. Our ARCAP® grades are also strictly non-magnetic and keep their dimensions stable over time.

ARCAP® AP1, AP1C and AP1D

ARCAP® AP1C (Cu56Ni25Zn19, UNS C79360) is lead-free and takes cold forming, deep drawing and stamping. We supply it as rods, strips and wires, and it accepts brazing, soldering and welding. Its H15 strips are supplied with a guaranteed minimum tensile strength of 730 MPa.

ARCAP® AP1D (CuNi25Zn11.5Pb1, UNS C79350) is the leaded grade for machined precision parts. It combines free machining with the same strength and corrosion resistance, in rods. ARCAP® AP1 (Cu64Ni25Zn11) is supplied as annealed strip for parts that are formed.

Watch components, optical fibre connectors and instruments

ARCAP® alloys are used in the Swiss watch industry for precision microcomponents, which must stay non-magnetic and dimensionally stable. They also go into optical fibre connectors, machined and then exposed to marine or oil and gas environments, and into aerospace instruments and shielding. Movement and case components, eyewear frames and hinges and leather-goods hardware ask the same things of a metal: dimensional repeatability, polishability, tarnish resistance and no magnetism.

How we work with you

Our engineers help you choose between the lead-free and the leaded grade, and the temper that suits your machining or forming route. We then supply the rods, strips or wires, with full traceability.

01

Strength and corrosion resistance above those of brass, with a silver colour and no silver content.

02

ARCAP® grades are strictly non-magnetic and keep their dimensions stable, for watch components and instruments.

03

ARCAP® AP1C is lead-free and formable; ARCAP® AP1D is the leaded free-machining grade for turned precision parts.

04

Used in the Swiss watch industry, in optical fibre connectors and in aerospace instruments and shielding.
